I like my food very spicy. I cannot make any curry without green chilies, red chilly or pepper. I dare enough to chew the slit green chilies from my dishes not only because I love their hot flavor but also that they can help burn my fat.
How?
Capsaicin is a compound present in chilies that give them their fiery flavor. Studies show that chilies like cayenne pepper can boost up your Vitamin C level. They also enable the body to burn off more fat through chemical combustion instead of storing it in muscle tissues. When you have a hot spicy food your body temperature increases with a fast metabolism. An increase in the metabolism will cause perspiration, redness and calorie burning and eventually help the process of weight loss. Chilies can increase the metabolic rate by 50% for up to 3 hours after a spicy meal.
Chilies also have anti-arthritic properties, can lower cholesterol and fight headaches, sore throats and muscle pains. Chili certainly was a spice used as an antiseptic and as a remedy to bronchitis and cholera.
Spicy food items also stimulate your taste buds giving you a satisfactory “full” feeling. So, you cannot overeat and will be perfectly within your limits.
Normally, we believe that hot spicy flavors can lead to ulcers. But there is no scientific evidence to support this popular belief. It is true than that it can worsen stomach ulcers. However, hot chili recipes are not for the spice-sensitive.
