Can you squeeze out half a glass of winter melon juice everyday? If you can, then it’s time for you to cheer up. It was for some other purpose that I went to the Ayurvedic doctor in our area. I had planned to ask him about the effectiveness of lemon-honey drink in the morning for weight loss. It was then that he told me about winter melon/ashgourd juice as a home remedy for weight loss.
Winter melon is also known as white melon, white pumpkin and white ashgourd and is called Kumbalanga in Malayalam and Louki in Hindi.. It is a fat free, fibrous vegetable and is supposed to be a good diuretic. It is also believed to have health beneficial properties in natural medicine. As a diuretic it will strain out the waste materials from your body by enhancing the urine flow and help you lose weight. Devoid of any calories it is safe for overweight and diabetic people.
Boil a few pieces of white melon in a little water. Squeeze out all its juice and drink half a glass daily on empty stomach. Drink lots of fluids and exercise regularly for optimum results.
Winter melon is highly popular in South India and is a common vegetable in the traditional South Indian cooking. It makes a delicious side dish with a paste of grated coconut and other ingredients. However, weight watchers can make a soup of winter melon with other vegetables like carrots, papaya or barley and enjoy a healthy sip. Taking winter melon juice with tomato juice daily is not a wise choice as an excess of tomato juice may lead to stones.
