Salmon has a hilarious yet significant presence in a short story written by William Somerset Maugham called The Luncheon. In the same way, salmon needs a special place in your diet too, says health experts. Believe me, I had my first piece of Salmon at Fishermen’s Wharf, San Francisco, for lunch one day and had to skip my dinner that night. I was so full until the next day!
Salmon is the king of nutrition among fishes. Due to its expensiveness, it is used sparingly and on special occasions. Wild Salmon is a repertoire of protein and for this very reason it is a great fat loss food i.e., you can get up to 30 grams of protein in a four-ounce serving.
It is wrong not to eat fats at all while trying to lose weight because your body needs fat. Salmon contains a type of unsaturated fatty acid called Omega-3. Omega-3 is great for immunity, brain health, low cholesterol, cardiovascular health and for preventing cancer to an extent. It is also linked to asthma, atherosclerosis, hypertension and menopausal problems.
Salmon can play a major role in weight loss by increasing the production of leptin, a hormone that keeps you light with a low appetite. Mind that it is low in calories and saturated fat. Modern research links obesity with inflammation as one of them can lead to the other. The nutritious combination of salmon (tryptophan, omega-3, magnesium, vitamin B3,6 and 12, vitamin D, selenium, protein, niacin and phosphorous) makes it a preventive measure against unwanted inflammation and consequent weight gain. So, salmon is a delectable healthy thing which can reduce your food cravings, keep you full, control your weight and in turn, keep you healthy.
Next time you buy fish, look for a piece of salmon.
