Yo-yo dieting, though familiar to many, needs to be introduced with both its positives and negatives. Diets like yo-yo are quite popular among teenyo_yos and bride-to be’s. Yo-yo dieting alias weight cycling is tried by many because of its ability to bring about an instant loss of 2-5 kilos. But they definitely need to know that as its  names signify it is all about losing and gaining all that you have lost.

Yo-yo diet is an extreme fad diet by which you simply skip meals. Through this diet, the dieter applies starvation to the body with astonishing results in the beginning. But during the process, the dieter is unaware of the fact that he is losing his muscle along with his fat tissue. In a few days time, the body with its divine instinct, realises this loss and begins using up the lean muscles for energy.  And loss of muscles means loss of metabolic rate!

Unfortunately, no one can remain on the starvation mode for long. The dieter will start eating normally and end up weighing more than before. Yo-yo is also a low carb-high protein diet which is again harmful to one’s cardiovascular health.

The end result can be summarized as immediate weight gain, loss of muscle mass, depression and demotivation due to a dip in serotonin levels, hormonal imbalances in women, reduced cardiovascular health and more! However, it is not certain that a dieter may find himself with all these medical conditions after a cycle. But for one’s well being, it is better to lead a healthy lifestyle and remain fit as a fiddle rather going for crash diet.
