Bad habits lead to weigh gain!

Yes, you heard that right.

  1. The biggest culprit is your idiot box. When I sit in front of my TV and browse through the channels I want something to munch something with my other hand. As I do it, I do not realize how much unnecessary fat I am getting inside my stomach. This is called “mindless eating”. Your habit of snacking in front of your TV on the weekends and in the nights as you relax cheats your concept of dieting. It is best to shop wisely for snack items which are low-fat and low calories. Eg: low-fat/sugar-free ice cream and 100 calorie cakes or cookies.
  2. Many of my friends go out from their work place for lunch. They are totally dependent on burgers and sandwiches for their daily diet. This habit signals to forthcoming obesity or protruding bellies as they take high calories diet with no physical activity in the day. Thanks to the 8 hrs sitting jobs. Not to mention the unlimited sodas and soft drinks you bag meanwhile.
  3. Instead, get a lunch packed from home which is healthier and nutritious. Your lunch can have some lean meat, beans, nuts or yogurt (all high in protein) which can fill your stomach making you less hungry all the day long. Protein also helps to burn more fat and preserve your muscle mass. Also, drink less of soft drinks (even if your office gives it free) and more of water to aid weight loss.
  4. I love spicy food and I cannot make anything without green chilies, red chilly or pepper. Spicy foods trigger off your taste buds and you will end up eating less.
  5. Shop tight to save fat and currency. Buy it in small packs. Moderate the amount of sugars and increase the intake of foods rich in fibre.
  6. Do not plan to drop in at a restaurant while travel. Have some meals handy! For Indians, you have lot many low calories, no fry foods ready for long journeys. Eg: Idlies (60 calories, 1 calorie from fat and absolutely no saturated fat). Frozen vegetables, whole-grain pasta, reduced-fat cheese, canned tomatoes, canned beans, pre-cooked grilled chicken breast, whole grain tortillas and bags of salad greens can get you a quick meal with less calories.
